Promoting International Education in West Virginia

West Virginia Consortium for Faculty and Course Development in International Studies (FACDIS)

The West Virginia Consortium for Faculty and Course Development in International Studies (FACDIS). Established in 1980, FACDIS is a consortium of 20 West Virginia institutions of higher education with over 375 participating faculty in international studies and foreign languages from more than fifteen different disciplines.

West Virginia Connections

WV Connections is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Education to provide students and teachers throughout West Virginia with quality educational resources for supporting English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, cultural exchanges and multicultural education in West Virginia.

WV Governor's Commission on International Education 2004 Report (pdf)

The Commission was established in 2003 by Governor Bob Wise who charged the group with assessing the current status of international education in the state, and based on this assessment, with making recommendations to promote international education opportunities at the K-12 and postsecondary levels. Cyrus Vance Awards for International Education

In 2001, the Office of the Secretary of Education and the Arts created the Cyrus R. Vance Award for International Education in West Virginia.  The purposes of this award are to honor the life and career of Cyrus Vance and to recognize exemplary practices in international education at the K-12 and postsecondary levels.

West Virginia Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (WVTESOL)

A professional organization of those who teach English as a second language.  The group is an affiliate of the international TESOL organization, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc. (TESOL).  WVTESOL seeks to strengthen ESL teaching, promote research in the filed of TESOL, and provide opportunities to share ideas with other ESL professionals in West Virginia.

West Virginia Foreign Language Teachers Association

A professional organization that unites all foreign language teachers, both at the K-12 and post-secondary level, to promote the study of world languages in West Virginia.  The group holds a yearly conference to provide a forum for collegial interaction.

West Virginia Japan Trade Office

The West Virginia Development Office has trade offices in Asia and Europe that offer assistance in export development and investment. The office in Japan is located in Nagoya.

Created as a result of efforts by U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller, the organization promotes West Virginia as an international business location and sponsors trade missions to Asia.
